Our Cadet is a highly selective program with 12 spots available for high school students between the ages of 15 and 18, living in Cranbury. If accepted into our program, Cadets will be instructed in the basics of scene safety, use of personal protection equipment, use and location of equipment on an ambulance, lifting and moving of patients, how to take vital signs and how to perform other EMS functions safely and effectively. After approval from the cadet advisor and Captain, a Cadet may be allowed to respond to emergency calls. As our main concern is safety, the types of calls that Cadets are allowed to respond to are restricted to most medical calls.
Cadets will be expected to attend training meetings under the supervision of a senior member of the squad. Cadets will become certified in Healthcare Professional CPR and learn and understand the role of the 911 system, basic human anatomy, communication skills and use of basic equipment. Cadets may also be offered the chance to take a NJ EMT class where they can continue and expand their education of the EMS system and becomed state certified.
